Hey guys, thought I'd share some pics of two scarce bayonets I recently acquired: First is a Baden Police bayonet by Alcoso, the standard issue (large) version with frog and knot. Second is a Customs Official (Zollschutz) dress bayonet also by Alcoso with frog and NCO knot. Personalized 'EB'

Yes, thanks for showing. Always good to see scarce stuff. I can't recall ever seeing these knots before.

Thanks guys. Yes, I think the knots may be rarer than the bayonets!

I actually threw in a bid on the Baden halfheartedly but stayed away as I was working and remembered I did have one with knot already. That rig has great condition.
The Customs piece has the nice personalization and the knot bulb has a configuration I hadn’t seen myself previously,2 silver cords with 2 green cords.
You’re right that the knots are harder to find than the bayonets. There were a number of bayonets that were humped up there but these are nice examples. You did extremely well.

Thanks Billy, I think I was lucky that the auction took place on a Tuesday during the day. As for the Customs knot (Zollschutz NCO), there is a picture on 296 of George Wheeler's book Seitengewehr with this same configuration. I assume the bayonet is a Land Customs Officials but I'm not entirely sure.
Regards, John

Hey John,
Yes, the knot is a Customs NCO knot with the plain leather strap instead of one with the 3 rows of aluminum thread. I have a couple of those style. You’re correct that the bayonet is a nice Land Customs piece.
I believe the Baden is the longer type with a 21” blade. They also came with slightly shorter 17” blades.

Very nice Billy!! The Customs bayonets came in various lengths and yours have the clamshells and correct knots. Yes, my Baden has the longer blade and overall the length of the piece is about 27 inches. They must have used quality materials when making these...the condition is remarkable, especially the blade.
