Not sure I like that Cross guard to grip fit. IMO an earlier grip has been added to later fittings

I agree.
That grip is is not what I would expect to see on a 1940 Eickhorn dagger. It has the smoother, more rounded shape of the earlier 1934-1937 products, not the machine carved angular late grips.

As some consolation, I took a look at a couple of my early Eickhorn SAs and the grips match the early one you have on your NSKK. So I suspect the grip to at least be an Eickhorn product just not text book for later SA/NSKK pieces
