Hi,
I recently bought an old hunting knife(or a Bowie knife) made by Friedr. Herder Abr. Sohn GmbH. Seller said "made in 1920's, only made 20 of this model, with no sheath".
This blade was made from etched, chrome plated, and blue dyed carbon steel, I think.
Any information would be helpful.

Looks like a "Nicker", but large size.
Fitting : nickel silver, full rat-tail tang
Blade : 8.25"
OAL : 13.4"

Thank you for your reply, Ed. Yes, looks new, so I don't believe what seller said  May be 30s - 50s? I don't know...

Post war in my opinion, over the years there have been lots of loose Herder blades available, if Herder had produced this during the 1920's then it would have come with a scabbard.

adding more detail.
The blade is nickel-chrome plated. And had not been storaged in-sheath condition.
The handle looks like thinly lackerd or some coated.
So does not have any definite corrosions, deteriorations.
I like this design.

IMO a very nice postwar Falconers knife ( Falknermesser) the notch on the ridge defines the end of the blunt ridge,
The Knife is held in the glove, when the Falcon lands with his pray the blunt ridge with not hurt the falcons claws, the false edge behind the ridge notch is used to kill the falcons pray when its brought back alive.
Here an example made early 1900
Clear to see the notches, theblunt ridge and the scharp false edge towards the tip behind the notches.

Thank you for your reply, Ger. Very knowledgable! And very fascinating example! I've learned something new. Now I realize the knives spine works as a falcon's perch. Deep etched blue portion also works as cleats, I think.
