Hello,
I'm new to this forum so please forgive any newbie-ness.

A friend of my dad has had a nazi dagger ever since he came to Canada from Europe in the 50's.
My dad is considering buying it but neither of them knows anything about it.
The old fellow who own's it is certain it's real and got kind of offended when my dad told him lots of these were faked.

Anyway, I know it's not worth a ton, as the condition is far from perfect.
There are 2 details that I'm not sure about.

One is the makers mark, I couldn't find any pictures of an RAD with this mark (even tho the mark looks real)
Two is the leather buffer on top of the cross guard. I was hoping one of you experts could shed some light on this detail and help me figure out thats up.

Anyway- Great site! I'm loving all the content. Here's some pictures. (I can take more if need be)

It is a very crude fake, and badly assembled to boot. Tell your dad to look elsewhere.

Thats a disappointment...
I know my poor photography does not help, but the differences I saw were- the markers mark was to close to the hilt, the cut out in the back of the blade (where my finger sits in the first picture) seems larger then in the link you posted, and of course the handle (I assumed it was replaced by some hack a while ago).

I'm a little surprised because the blade etching looked really real according to the reading I did. and the details on the eagle head looked pretty good to be. (tarnish aside).

In the interest of helping a newbie out could you go into a little more detail? I know the handle of course fits like crap. But what are you guys looking at?

The fit and finish are terrible eagle details and sheath are all wrong I have examined one of these same fakes they are considerably larger than authentic examples when placed side by side I do not think that Eickhorn was a listed maker??? I certainly have never seen a period one in 35 years of collecting daggers this is for starts cheers Ryan

Hello, the hewer shown here is a total fake as can be seen in many details.
EICKHORN naturally HAS BEEN a large manufacturer of period RAD leader hewers.

Thanks again to you guys for helping me out with this dagger.
I have to say, after finding out what I have isn't real- I feel like I'm catching what I can only imagine is an expensive bug lol.

Got to say, I'll be doing a lot of reading on here as I think I'm going to start the search for something real. I'm a young guy (under 30) and I think something like this will be even more of a neat thing to have as I grow old.
