Hello all, I've recently gotten into German dagger collecting. I own one good example and recently purchased this dagger from a reputable knife dealer who does not specialize in SS daggers. Much about the dagger looks good to me but the handle/crossguard fit, especially at the rear, concerns me. My other dagger fits like a glove and this one stands out. I have the option of returning the dagger if needed. The price was very fair. I'd like to hear any opinions if anyone has any insight. Thank you very much for your help! Hi David. Welcome to this forum. I suggest you to return the dagger at once. It's a totally fake with some original parts at best. F. Herder A.S. daggers are controversial and this logo is not the correct one for SS daggers made by F.Herder A.S. if they even existed.

Agree. That is the trademark used on SA daggers, not SS.

David I have learned a lot since I have been on the forum, Do like they told me get some books and study them. The first picture I could tell this was not a good dagger, I hope yo9u get you money returned. Like they say next time Post pictures on here before you buy. I know most of the time you don't think you have time so you just jump in , I was guilty of that. But its better in the long run to let the experts Look it over first Bob

Thanks everyone. The dagger arrived today and although I believe parts are real, you seem correct about the blade. I've contacted the seller and hopefully all will be well with a return. I will post a follow up. Thank you for your help!

Maybe someone could send me a private message and let me know what other issues you see with the dagger. I'd like to learn. The tang has the crossed keys mark as well. Do forgers go to this much trouble? I was a bit concerned about the handle fit and the etching on the last "e" as it does not connect. I have compared the dagger to my Eickhorn and all of the dimensions look spot on. The seller has agreed to refund and I would like to learn from this.
Thank you very much,
David

It could have been a left over stock from the Herderfirm. Bought by a faker after the war so he could make a fake SS inscription on it.
