Gustavo:
At a buy it now price of 695 Euros, it would be a great price for a real one, not so much for a place holder.
And the seller has an over 99% approval rating!

Addyfie:
Etched Luft2 blades are not very common at all... especially this type of presentation etch.
You will encounter the Voos-type etch always on plated blades with and without maker marks. Usually, Voos (go figure) and sometimes Krebs. Most such etches are on plated blades, but Eickhorn is one of the very few makers who had etched non-plated blades. I would be very careful of any non plated, non Eickhorn.
The etches that you could encounter are pictured in Tom Wittman's Luftwaffe book... but are, except for the Voos-type, very rare.
And they are all very expensive.
A real such etch would not have lasted 30 seconds at 695 Euros, is all I can say.

I have an Army etch on a plated blade that is a Voos-style etch. The major difference between it and the Luft2 is the use of an army Eagle instead of a Luft eagle... both types, like I said, on plated blades and both have the sprigs under the wings.
If you etch in not on a plated blade, I would be a little worried. How is the etch detail? Any breaks or bleeding?
Can you post pictures of your Army?

John my etched army doesnt seem to have a plated blade, i have a weyersberg 2nd luft with a plated blade and the etched army doesnt look plated to me! but i am no expert. firstly i was a little concerned when i saw the etch on the 2nd luft on the auction site, as it seemed quite similar to mine (of what i can see of it) i posted some pics of it about 6 months ago of my etched army and everyone on here liked it.Also i have to say the etch detail is excellent on my army, i have been told of a reliable source that my dagger is unconditionallly good and one of a kind!!! what do you think? thanks for the intrest .......Adam

Addyfie: I remember the thread on this dagger and just reviewed it. It is a great etch and a superb find. I have no issues with the Wusthoff (except for the fact that it should be displayed on my wall, not yours ). But, while one should never say 'never', I do not have the same comfort with the Luft at the top of the thread. For all items, especially non-textbook, it comes down to provenance up the ying yang and in hand inspection (and, maybe, a COA from one of our hobby experts). John

thanks John i have struggled to find out any infomation on the etch from wusthof, i was told to buy mr wittmans army book as etched blades were covered in the book, which i did and still there was no etch in the book that was similar in style to mine. Instead of going round in circles i decided to contact mr wittman and see if he could shed any light on the situation, which he did ,he told me that the etch on my wusthof was pretty much a one off and that etch was exclusive to their firm. i agree what you guys are saying about the 2nd luft above it doesnt look right at all but it is the first etch that looks anything like mine i have seen!!! just curious if anyone else out there has an etch similar to my wusthof, and roughly how many styles were their? ie voos, eikhorn, alcoso, klass and wkc cheers

Addyfie:
When I go through Wittman's Luft book, I see the following etch types:
Voos, and Voos-style on no maker marked blades (always on plated blades)
Alcoso
SMF
WKC
Eickhorn
Klaas
I have, in my collection, a Voos and an unmarked Voos-style, as well as a Voos style etch on a CJ Krebs blade. I also have an Alcoso etch. Recently, in another GDC thread, we also discussed a Schuttlehoffer etched blade that I recently acquired.
The first significant differences between the etches has to do with the shape of the bookends... Eickhorn for example always has the twin fleu-de-lys bookend.
I am sure that almost every maker would take special orders (if the price was right) and would either etch it themselves or would farm it out. This was very common in the bayonet world.
John

I have a very early Eickhorn with a factory etch with the fleur de lis ends as described by John. My blade is polished though, not plated...

Nice Army you have there Adam! Dedication army daggers seem to be tough to find... The inscription on mine reads:
Unserem Kommandeur Oberst Paul Laux Infanterie Regiment No. 24 Braunsberg - Okt 1935
To our Commander Colonel Paul Laux Infantry Regiment No. 24 Braunsberg - October 1935
It was presented to commemorate his appointment as Coronal and Commander of the 24th Infantry Regiment in October 1935. He later went on to win the Knights Cross and Oak leaves and was General of the Infantry before his death in 1944 in an air crash.
