Hello,
The dagger has no maker mark on blade (normal on 36). The chain is in bad condition.
I need opinion about this SS36.
Thanks. JC

Hi Matarese,, heres my 2 cents worth....The dagger itself looks great except the lower crossguard differs from the upper,,seems like it is picking. i am not used to seeing that on unmarked daggers ,, if it even belongs to it!! the lower scabbard fitting looks like a replacement as it is not matching with the rest of the scabbard or it was heavily polished nice. The crossguard and lower scabbard fitting IMO do not look right to the dagger. The chain i can not give an opinion on as it is somewhat corroded. I hope someone else will comment on this dagger as it seems like there are crickets on the forum... more so anymore than replies to any posts. regards Larry

Impossible to tell from the photos, the dagger and scabbard fittings look like they could be made of a mixture of early nickel-silver parts and later plated parts. This could be how it came from the factory, or could have been pieced together later. The chain skulls barely have any detail. They look like someone cleaned all the corrosion away, taking almost all detail with it. The dagger appears to be in decent shape, again, with possibly mixed grip parts. The eagle looks like an early one and the upper guard may be, too. The lower guard is obviously plated. The blade appears to have been polished, but the motto was left nicely intact. I can't see any obvious fake parts, but, as noted, they do appear to be mixed.

It looks to me like a collection of parts. Old, new, and who knows what. With some of the connector links looking like they might be hand made? There are those who say that the core value of these daggers is in the chain (not that I am disagreeing). But does that include links that you can see through?? FP

Thanks. What can be a correct price if I decide to sell this one?

I don't like the looks of the dagger no detail on the chain and wotan knot where is it and what happened to it.I know a blade could be mint in a worn dagger but I don't like the combo.Value? I would not buy it.

The only way to look at this dagger is a parts piece in mediocre condition, at best. I would pay no more for it than the parts are worth. Personally, I would not buy it at all and wait for one less questionable and in nicer condition. You will pay more for one, but you will have something of true collectible value. This one is not it. If you can get it dirt cheap, it could be a filler. You could also replace one or both guards, but lower ones are hard to find and are expensive. Plus, you would be adding to the parts issue. The chain is the object of focus for a lot of collectors and this one is beyond what most would seek.
