Hi Folks:

I have again posted my current list of full Rhm SS daggers that are currently identified. Are there any others that you can add?

It also interesting to again note that of these fifteen, seven of these men were in Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler and among the most zealous of the zealots. What was it with these naughty nazis who thought they were above these orders?

SS No. 2117- SS-Obersturmfhrer Hans Hhmann, Siegert, Die Dienstdolche der Schutzstaffel SS, p.294-295

SS No. 2803- SS-Obersturmfhrer Erich Kempka, (LSSAH), Private Collection

SS No. 2924 (dagger is not numbered), SS-Sturmfhrer Ludwig Butz, Wittman pp. 65-65

SS No. 3681, Obersturmfhrer Gerhard Feldman; Private Collection

SS No. 3798, SS-Standartenfhrer Helmut Schulz, Wittman, p. 69

SS No. 4758, SS-Brigadefhrer Theodor Wisch (LSSAH), Wittman, pp. 80-81

SS No. 8689, SS-Hauptsturmfhrer Helmut Greve (LSSAH), Private Collection

SS No. 14 246, SS-Untersturmfhrer Karl Kastner. NSDAP 170 948; Russian Collection

SS No. 17 827, SS-Obersturmfhrer Hans Spitt (LSSAH), Wittman, p. 70

SS No. 25 824, SS-Scharfhrer Erich Brauer (LSSAH), Kelbaugh Collection

SS No. 28 967, SS-Sturmbannfhrer Helmutt Schmitt, sold by Lakesidetrader

SS No. 33 062, SS-Sturmbannfhrer Heinz Linden (LSSAH), Eastern European Collection

SS No. 44 884, SS-Obersturmfhrer Hans Prestin, Siegert, Die Dienstdolche der Schutzstaffel SS, p. 280-281

SS No. 59 382, SS-Sturmbannfhrer Hans Bnning (LSSAH), Wittman, p. 70-71

SS No. 76 637, SS-Hermann Ktzold (07.05.1894-06.08.1944); Siegert, Die Dienstdolche der Schutzstaffel SS, p. 274-277

Enjoy!

I can add an example I owned about 30 years back:-

SS No 42981, SS-Ustfuf.(1938 J. Sch.) Anton Berlin, 3.SS-T Sta."Thuringen"

A text book Eickhorn "full Roehm" that ticked all the boxes.

Like Ross, I also wondered why a member of the fanatic SS-TV would risk keeping such a dagger against orders.

The dagger had very little signs of wear and I had to suppose that contrary to orders it had just been put away after 30 June 1934 by this SS-man (who later graduated as an officer) for reasons known only to him.

In agreement with Barry but to add a few extra points,,,,

#1 It must of been honorable for this man to receive a dagger like this and
#2 deep down regardless of orders this SS man must of had some kind of allegience to Rohm as most SA men that went into the SS but were afraid to show their solidarity to a deemed traitor.
I believe in ourselves we too have things that we should physically erase from our lives but we continue to hold onto them for reasons of some insecurity or someone finding out. We all have it in some kind of context.
It is not hard fact exactly what I pointed out but just a few possibilities.
I myself if it were me that had a Full Rohm SS would tear my heart out to deface such a work of art as we see it now by todays collectors. Makes my skin crawl to even see a deep scratch on the surface of any dagger.
I am quite sure even back then there were some who thought the dagger itself was a work of art where some were not and didnt care to mar the blade because of their staunch support to Himmler and Hitler.

This is really interesting case. The Totenkopf commander Theodor Eicke was the one who shot Rhm, and Eicke was trully worshiped by his men, so such sentimental act (keeping Rhm's signature) is bit unexpectable, but human mind is so strange and hard to predict, that there may be more than one reason for taking the risk of not obeying the Himmler's order.

Interesting topic!

Is it known who the owner of Kempka's dagger is?

Kempka's unground SS dagger is in a private collection in the U.S. The owner prefers to remain anonymous. You can see photos of it here:

Enjoy!

No problem, let him remain anonymous, I'm happy just to see the dagger, thanks.
