Hello, I'm new to this forum and relatively new to dagger collecting. A special thank you to Vern for his help in posting these photos. I wonder if anyone can help identify this army crossguard. I cannot find it in Tom Wittmann's book. The pommel is also a variant in as much as the bottom is flush, this may be an alteration, but all metal is heavy brass based material.

Crossguard is the type identified by Jon H as being used by Puma-Voos -Krebs Obviously only on early examples a beautiful and rare crossguard and your right it�s not in the book. CrossGuard Reference

Your welcome and nice dagger usually the pommel will have a ridge that will receive the top of the grip which is designed to go up into the pommel-what�s the top of the grip look like?

The top of the grip has been cut flush with just a slight ridge remaining. I'm new to this, who is Jon H?

Got a pic of the grip? Jon H is the guy who built and owns the website I linked to. That crossguard reference is superb. Guy knows his army daggers.

My guess would be the grip was oversized for the blade tang and the solution was to grind the collar off the pommel and the top of the grip. I am interested to see what the dagger pommel/grip looks like assembled.
Tom kindly linked to the crossguard reference above ( which needs updating ! ) or click my banner below.
Your dagger also has the scarcest of the 4 Voos trademarks, is the blade a tapered tang?.
Edit, just saw the new pictures which answered my questions. A very nice early dagger with a unique modification.

Thank you Degens. What a wonderful reference gallery you have created, and how generous to share your work with other collectors. Is it alright to refer to this site with other issues? Regarding the pommels I assume that this is an adaptation or alteration, I just wondered if this was a type of production. At least I have found the Crossguard type. Regards John

Paul do you have a picture of the crossguard on that early Puma you sold a while back? Was it the same type?

Just a real good and useful site, WW2Collector! Going in the suggested links on your page I have just found this: http://www.daggrs.de/index.php?page=product&info=168I have yet seen that Alcoso TM on a 1921 dagger, but isn't that TM much later ??
