Hello Remco,

That is a very nice early Emile Voos HJ knife that you have.
This maker etched the motto very lightly on his blades, so any way, you should be careful when cleaning/polishing because the undeep motto might faint.

Personaly, I would not clean it at all. Leave it as it is, it shows character and it proves its authenticity.
The only thing I might consider is washing the dirt (if there is any) away with water and soap.

Best greetings,

Herman

I agree with Herman, use only soap & water IF you really must clean the blade, otherwise i would leave it alone.

Also simichrome polish is accepted as a mild polish. Google the name or you're local Harley dealer. Ian.

ha ha , Ed, when I was a teenager I worked for Remco maintenance/restoration in NYC one summer.. I used to take down the scaffolding,,,rough job!,, anyway, yeah they restored/polished up granite, marble, brass, other metals etc.
[sorry to mess up the thread,,, a light clean-up otherwise leave the blade alone] smile

You might try some WD-40, petroleum jelly, motor oil or other petroleum-based product on it. Don't scrub it. Just gently apply and let it set for a while. Then wipe it clean. This should remove surface dirt and any dissolvable rust, etc. Plus, it will leave a light protective coat on the blade.

I leave it as it is Remco, I do not limparia sheet unless strictly necessary ...

Of course if you clean the blade with soap and water make sure it is completely dry before putting it in its sheath, if necessary using a hair dryer for more security to avoid leaving residual moisture in it.
