If it works it would be great service since at least 1/2 of helmets in circulation are probably fakes.

Haven't heard of them, but, if it's the real deal, it could be worth it for the more expensive helmets. $250 a pop is a bit steep for run-of-the-mill examples.

i think that with all the books, various forums and collectors with lots of experience in helmets, this service is superfluous,,now if you want to spend a bundle on a helmet you are unsure of,that is potentially worth thousands, then it might be prudent to get the COA to be able to assuage the worries of the new buyer,,IMHO..

I was hoping one of the helmet guys who may have actually used this service would post their opinion here but, apparentely, they've all gone somewhere else. Jim

Interesting technology, but at the cost it would only be worthwhile for very high end helmets. I don't think it is applicable to the liner or chinstrap, so those areas require some experience when evaluating. Jim, you are correct - most of the helmet guys have fled to GHW. Cheers, Mike

Kelly Hicks is one of the owners of that operation. Kelly is a really interesting person and sort of the God father of SS helmets. You can be assured this is a quality and legitimate operation. Best Wishes, Bob

I think it would be a perfect tool for testing camo helmets. Did see several tests made at this years SOS, and I liked what I did see. Agree with Bob I, you can be assured this is a quality operation....

My GrandFather was a sign painter. I have kept many of his antique cans of paint for their beautifull labels. So, if these were used to camo a helmet I wonder how accurate the test would be? Also how can an original/vintage decal added post war to a helmet be judged?

hello, what should be done take a known fake item , split the cost among Several members, and see the results. 20 + years ago I reworked a west german helmet into an SS . the big time "experts" where at a show, and they stood in line to veiw it. I was offered CRAZY money (back then )for it. I turned around and left ,laughing the whole time. my father was/is a dealing & he was shocked. He let the cat out of the bag on that one, just to show they were just as stupid as anyone else. currently have one advanced helmet collector hot to trot over 2 of my helmets ; also fake from 20+ years ago. I told him they were fake AND he will not believe me!! with the correct paint ,ect. no test will help. jeff h.

Interesting, Jeff. How about a demonstration? Why not post good clear close-up photos of a good helmet and one that is your artistic creation? Let us see how many can determine the good versus the bad. Better yet post several bad vs good helmets to eliminate the chance of a 50/50% good guess..... Cheers, Mike

Mike ,actually a nice idea. But the SS one is long gone,99% of that collection sold 18 years ago to pay lawers. So beware of an SS blue/ gray "camo. paint, junk linner (post war) WITH painted SS decal & painted eldwiess on the other side. AND MY other 2 (still have) are so wierd that it would be hard to find some thing original to compare them too. as a teenager then , not intrested in creating some thing so simple/ common.. Has ANYone seen ANY SS helmets that have a camo. paint job ,AS IF it were actually a real camo. cover on it ??? I did a lot of them back then for the 3rd SS group in ILL. I do own original items too. if my internet stay up & running.... I'll pull a few things out & post photos. jeff h.

here's the inside of the ww1. note the nice old wear pattern. forum wont take the other photos (to big). sorry on the bad quality. junk camera. this one also has the original damage (shell fragment) on top/ back ; with the rough re-paint working "with it" to still look original.

It may be the lighting, or the rather bizarre camo patterns - but I have to tell you that no one with a smattering of experience would ever mistake those as original camo paint jobs. -Mike

as I said before , I do have people intrested in both of them. I agree , at a show I would not think any good. but , the ww.1 has strong interest with most who have seen it. remember , all those glasses that got recalled for lead in the paint..... in the right hands ...all is possible. jeff h.

Hi starting with the positive -Nice work....However I have to agree 100% with Mike..No experienced or astute collector of helmets would be duped by such finishes Regards, Ryan
