Hey guys - I notice there are fewer and fewer SA (and SS) Daggers for sale than last year when they commanded top dollar.
Remember the frenzy for SA Daggers!?
The GDC For Sale Forum had multiple daggers for sale almost everyday.
From what I can tell it looks like the ones I see for sale are still getting top price.
What's the reason? Have they been scooped up by guys wanting to hold onto them? The Russians? Same question for SS Daggers.

My personal opinion is that those that were available were either sold or removed from sale for reasons of rarity.
I pulled two from the sale area myself because I felt they were underpriced.

Can you spell E C O N O M Y? There are a lot of people out there who have lost their jobs or are afraid of losing them. We are in a recession. How deep it goes... nobody knows. That doesn't necessarily affect retired folks with fat pensions and a garage full of expensive toys like Mark. However, it does affect the average Joe and his collecting is curtailed. I don't think the price of daggers has or will come down much, but there are not nearly the same number of buyers right now. The right piece will still sell to the right buyer, but for the most part this is bad time to have to sell any collectible.

One thing for sure, daggers hold their value strongly, unlike the stock market fluctuates.

Well with the SOS around the corner, if I was a dealer I wouldn't go thru the trouble of posting here when I planned on bringing them to the show where I was sure they would sell. If they sell here the dealer has to box them up, wait for payment, then go to the post office to ship. If they sell there it is instant, paid and gone.

The plain facts:

This is tax time, people are gun shy.
People are still paying off Christmas
Economy is slow, (totaly a mental mind set)
Its an election year (historicly bad for business)
SOS show is soon, people are holding $ for it.

This time of year I find many great deals.

Hit it right on the head.... Tax, election etc.... Good daggers and swords are never a problem to sell, as long as they are (not) overpriced... In the last 30+ years anyway

I agree with the above, but if people are strapped for cash, I would think there would be more offered for sale, even though there are fewer buyers.

If collectors / owners needed money they'd be selling.
I don't see nearly the number of listings for daggers (SA nor SS) that appeared on many sites a year ago.
When sellers aren't willing to sell then demand is greater than supply. If that is the case, look for prices to go up.

Remember that as daggers gain in value and desirability, they often get sold without a lot of fuss or publicity. Dealers have waiting customers for some of the better items so we may not be seeing all that is happening.

I agree with Dave, I have a list of good customers that when I get something they get first chance. Most of the time my stuff is sold that way. Rarely do I post mint or near mint items on the web.

To add to this, many private collectors have been approached by dealers and especially other collectors with "If you ever decide to sell ....".

I know that I have made that pitch to some guys who have SS daggers that I would like to own. And several collectors have said the same to me.

Im new to collecting but been into "net buying" for a while, I beleave this is what I call the settleing period were as before the internet a dagger generaly would not leave a county now that internet selling and trading is in full swing collectors are swooping up daggers from people that dont know there actual value from accross the nation i.e. I unknowingly perchesed a ground rohm blade last year for $40 and have seen near perfect sa daggers on craigs list for $200 in the near future most of these blades will be in the hands of collectors and going for top doller.

I saw the nice SS RZM Dagger vintagetime just sold on our forum. $3650.00 and sold immediately. I know some of the guys here don't like to see the values going up so much but it is inevitable considering what these daggers represent.
