I have an Aesculap short dress bayonet with a blue felt plug. I have never come across this before, and someone told me that they believe it's from the Diplomatic Service.
Can someone out there give me some advice on this?

Yes TK, I know all those, but nothing about a blue felt plug in any reference.

With all those fake stuffs in the market, would this BLUE felt a repro ? They even produce fake knots (which is complicated I suppose) so a blue felt is nothing difficult.
I had bought some 'original' red & green felts from Johnson Books but I am NOT convinced that they are periodically made.
Flugzeug, if you don't mind to pull that felt out for inspection you can tell whether if it is recent make. The part that expose to environment should at least fade a little after +60 yars of storage. Just my two cents worth......

I too have seen the Johnson replacements and agree with your observation. This one was pulled when I got it, and shows all the signs of 60+ years of age. Slight fade where exposed to light, and a few moth nips.

Although we don't know what blue represent, but it is a good sign at least. Good luck in finding more about your nice piece. Will be very interested to know when you obtain any other information.
