First off it is not German, I'm guessing Russian, but that's about it. I figured that if any one would know it would be sword collectors.
I'm more of a German dagger, badge and helmet collector. Any help from you guys I thank you for.

The same markings on the ricasso are duplicated on the quillion block.

It appears to be a Russian-style Shasqua sword, WWI period, but the markings on the ricasso look like it might be Armenian or Turkish issue.

As stated the sword is a middle eastern copy of the Imperial era Russian Dragoon Shashka model of 1881. With what looks like the serial number 8028 in Arabic on the ricasso of the blade. They were not made for the collector market, but instead were army issue, and unlike the Russian swords came with a steel scabbard. The country of origin however is believed to be Persia (Iran).

At the time they were imported along with some Persian Mauser rifles. The rifles and some carbines were originally of prewar Czech manufacture. However many of the carbines were made locally after the end of WW II. My sense of it in looking at the standard of manufacture, and condition, of these swords and the Model 1949 carbines. It is that they were made at more or less the same time in the postwar period. FP

FJS and FP, Thank you both very much for the information. It does have a steel scabbard, any idea on a ball park figure of value?
Thanks again.
