Hi, About 6 months ago I bought a "repro" HJ knife from a not 2 well informed dealer. After having several long-term collectors and dealers look at it the consensus now is that the scabbard is def. original and the knife has become an enigma! I even asked Tom Whittmann about it and he wasn't sure! The blade is just stuning, great etched motto and nice deep IS Wolfertz makers mark. But the handle, pommel, and guard are ALLUMINUM! Tom told me 2 either contact some guy who's name he had but no phone # or email or post it here and ask if anyone knows 4 sure if they ever were made of alluminum. Well here it is. Whats the answer? Norm

Check this out, Norm.

There were "aluminium like" hilts used during the war period. For the use of real aluminium, I have my doubts because that "precious" metal was needed for the airplane construction.

Here are a couple of pictures of an "aluminium like" hilt, dated 1940.

Best greetings,

Herman
