There is no marking on this one. More later regarding marking.

Anyone seeing something very particuliar to this buckle (aka something we do not find very often (to say the least) on a buckle from another maker)?

How about a continuation of the outer border between wings, beak and back of head??? Just a guess, know nothing about buckles.

Sorry, my mistake. I was refering to the buckle construction, not the eagle design.

So, here is how we found out:
I obtained my first SS buckle by Paul Meybauer in 2001. Since it was an ebay purchase and one I never seen before, I was still wondering about its issue (remember the early 2000's with all the real good fakes surging from everywhere ...). Right away, two very distinct features got my attention: the sheet cut (at an angle rather than smooth - see Georg editing above) and a very particuliar post sleeve. If you pay attention to the post sleeve you will remark there is two "lips", one on each border. When post sleeve is rolled over post, those two "lips" are touching each other and are absolutely parallel. It is more visible on the SS buckle since its post sleeve was not damaged by rust.
I had now two particuliar features but no guarantee to find those on other buckles. But since experience showed that several makers in the early 30's did use either same post sleeves, same prongs, same folding tool, same posts, etc... (or even all the above) to produce several buckles for the rising organizations of the NSDAP, I had my chance. So, even one of those two very particuliar features find on another buckle could help. If fake, the same could also be anticipated. I named this SS buckle "Pointed Wings" for an obvious reason I should have no need to explain ...
During the following year, in 2002, the first ground dug example was brought to my attention. On this example, time and elements left marks than no artificial aging could. At least, the "Pointed Wings" SS buckle was original. But, was remaining the other question: which other buckles (other than SS) this maker could have produce? Most likely we should expect many more made for the SA and with a little bit of luck, one could have been marked.
So, early January 2003 I posted a request in several Belt and buckles Forums. In this request I highlighted the two above features and asked collectors to check their collections for any buckle bearing the same features, or at least one of them. The sheet cut could be the easiest to spot. Unfortunately nothing was reported, even from the largest collection I knew at that time in Belgium. Some other SS were later brought to light or did change hands but nothing more.

I had to wait until earlier in the year of 2007 to receive my first feedback: Ric (b.collector) a well known collector of belt buckles sent me the link for a similar buckle discused in a Forum. He was recalling my request made in 2003 and that buckle was with the exact same features (not only one but both) as the SS but made for the ... SA! The only bad luck: unmarked. At least, we had evidence the quest was well founded and could bring more results.

Results came from the same source: Ric purchased an HJ buckle with, at least, the sheet cut feature. And this HJ buckle was MARKED. Photos were sent to my attention along with an invitation to accept delivery of this HJ buckle to my house for close comparison. I (of couse) accepted on the spot! Upon reception, not only the sheet cut was the exact same, but also the post sleeve particuliar detail ("lips") was there. No doubt the HJ buckle and the SS one were made by the same maker. Since the HJ was marked by Paul Meybauer ...

All can now understand my great gratitude toward Ric (b.collector). As usual, some will not understand why I am still dedicating such time to find who is behind a certain SS buckle. Let's call it real passion. But I also strongly believe we have to reveal history since history will not reveal itself and in a while it will be gone for everybody. Obviousely some are working to do not let this happen. Thanks Ric!

Photos will follow.
