For the patina, I use VIGOR Gold & Silver Oxidizer. This is a standard jeweler's product. I believe that they used to use liver sulfate, but I'm not positive.

I'm more than sure that they used liver. It's easy to make it and I doubt that at that time there was many jewelry suplyers available. I'm making it myself for three reasons first I'm lazy to go after ready oxidizer, second - by playing with proportions I can get diferent tonalities, third it's ten times cheaper.

I've used Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black with good results. I wipe an item such as a TK ring repro down with it,let it dry* then buff off the high spots. I buff with a rag and jewelers rouge so as NOT to take the blackening out of the low spots. I've alway kept a bottle of this around to touch up the anodizing on aluminum composition pistol frames and found it works just as well on silver.
*AT that point the ring will be totally black like the one hapur pictured above.

I agree , 'liver' was one of the techniques used wartime...

Thanks!! The next batch will be even better. I was having some quality problems with the waxes that were provided by my casting company. A 1930's ring is in the near future. For those who are interested, production is now resuming. Sorry for the delay!!
