Hi Benten - I think it's a long shot, but I see the Rock of Gibraltar at the top http://www.geocities.com/player2000gi/gibraltar.htm and Africa with the Sahara desert at bottom. The squiggly line between them could represent a voyage through the Strait of Gibraltar. I'm probably way off! Smile

BB that is an good option ; all together it could be something North African, because ;
-The rough style of depicting in a solid golden object ( here a ring) .
-The style is decorative, more abstract , it could symbolize, as you said, Rock of Gibraltar at the top and Africa with the Sahara desert at bottom, voyage through the Strait of Gibraltar (or; the mountain range along the coast or desert?)
-The ring must be for a personal value; to spend money for a heavy golden ring with handmade inscription.
Perhaps a foreigh Legion souvenir?

Can we exclude that its not just a style-decoration on the front?

BadBob thank you for your idea , you put me on the rails.
And Gaspare, thanks for the export information .
