Is there any signficance on the numbering on the back of a ss civilian badge stickpin with the makers mark -Hoffstatter/Bonn.
Are these #'s the recipients ss number?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Not the owners serial number.

Considered a manufacturing secquence
number and of no significance. This has been
proven direct from the documents of
many officers.

It seems to be just an issue number with no relation to their SS or NSDAP number.

Is the maker mark raised on this pin per chance?

Cheers
Don

I have several pins including Gahr.
Have never liked these "raised" names.
With such a low number,I have always leaned toward them being Gahr in origin. Before
Hoffstatter picked up the volume demand.
Not for me.To each his own..

Hi Dean

I would say that the pin you have posted is a post-war reproduction, I am sorry to say.

Hoffsttter pins were very different on the back of with the MM being stamped and the numbers are a different size and font.

The likelihood of them changing the whole production set-up for a small range of pins seems highly unlikely given their low value.

The only differences I do see on original pins is that some have the issue number engraved rather than stamped.

Number is stamped and not raised.
Thank you for the input.

Jim-
I'll get some more pictures posted soon.
Thanks for posting your examples.
I found a interesting post by Grumpy under the SS&SA uniform category titled: SS Membership Pin Large dated 6-21-2006 that went back and fourth about this style of pin but it never seemed to come to a conclusion.
Also I found this style of pin selling in a grouping on Craig's site.
