Hello,
I'm new to this forum but thanks to many who have already helped me with info from your posts.
I am looking at this HJ knife but need someone with knowledge to give me an opinion. I suspect it has been tampered with for two reasons: first, it is dated 1941 and still has the motto and I thought I understood that the motto was not used after 1938. Second, the maker mark seems positioned differently from what I would suspect from other photos I've seen.
Opinions?

You are correct about the motto after 1938 that usually is a red flag. You may want to look at this link. Paul's site will help you with the basics of buying a HJ knife

Another No-No is the lip on the scabbard and no rivet.

Thanks for the link. Based on that info my guess is someone etched the motto onto the blade.

I think it's definitely one to avoid.

This knife is not a late original with an added motto, it is a 100% fake:

- scabbard with lip and missing rivet (already said by SS man)
- writing and positioning of the motto is not good
- diamond is a bad copy.
- makersmark is on the obverse side with the motto, only a few makers did that.

Best greetings,

Herman

Can you find out exactly what the RZM/date marks are on the ricasso, and if there are any other marks on the reverse? I would like to add this example to the fake HJ thread if it is permitted to do so, being from a dealer - Herman?

Regards
Russell
