Here is another dagger... the blade doesn't have the obvious signs of fakery, the gilting in the etch, because it doesn't have an etch.

A number on the scabbard throat that is the same as the one on the blade.
Opinions?

Carlos:
If you see any of these with nice engravings and gold inlay on things like the coat of arms, then you know it is a fake. The originals have really poor and crappy engravings... not at all like the German stuff we are used to.
But, this blade looks plated, is unmarked and has no etchings, only the stamped numbers which match the ones on the scabbard.
I am curious if this is a legitimate variation.

I am waiting until our Hungarian members speak on this one. There is a lot good on this dagger but the weak detail is troubling. But, I am not sure so let us give this one some time and see what others think

Ted's are absolutely correct and good for comparison. It was one of the Hungarians who had mentioned overall detail before. Although I think the nickle plated one may have been restored a little bit. Thank you Ted

Congrats Ted, those Hungarian daggers are beautiful.
JohnZ: to tell you the truth I don't like the Air Forces dagger what you have... I have seen several daggers like yours in Hungary. All of them had numbered parts, painted wood grip, plain blade. I think it is a better repro than the others, but still a repro. You can see the terrible quality details on the pommel: you won't find that kind of quality on an original dagger. I don't like the scabbard release button also (it is the typical fake-style) and the quality of the whole dagger. I am very suspicious with these very-very accurately numbered daggers. Personaly I have never seen an original Air Force dagger numbered that way. But the 90% of the fakes has numbered parts. It is logical, the fakers belive that it looks more legit if a dagger numbered everywhere.
There was a manufacturer named Kozk Antal. He made daggers with numbered blade. But those daggers has way more better quality than yours.
The dagger what you have is a hard piece. First time I saw a dagger like yours I was confused. Not gilted blade: it was a good sign. But I didn't like the whole dagger. I was thinking for days if is it original or not. But when I found another 5-6 for sale within two weeks...
The worst thing with the Hungarian repros that there are 7-8 "generation" of fakes. Ones are easy to detect (gilted coat of arms, named blades, etc.) and ones are not.
Your dagger is a quite professional repro, without the well known red flags, but it is still a repro.

Hi guys, here is my Hungarian air force. Any thoughts on if its a repro or not. Does not have the obvious signs and the quality is good but with all the fakes around who knows?

Hi Simon, sorry, the etch and the maker mark is a typical repro. Original etches are hand made and have differnt design.

Hi Jim, it is a beautiful period dagger. The mark on the ricasso is maker mark. I have seen it an several original dagger. Here is a picture of this mark from my archives.
