I have serious issues with this cap a friend is selling. I know what I think is wrong but am soliciting opinions.

Interior of cap. Noticable wear, no maker mark. Appears period and to spec.

Hello SSTK,
The cap in question does look somewhat old and worn, but it would be hard to make a determination from images. The buttons do not look correct even for a later war example. You have already noted the incorrect position of the Edelweiss and I might add that the BeVo Trapezoid has too much edge border and looks less worn than the rest of the cap.
Does the cap have bridle loops under the side flaps and are there any signs of markings inside?
Regards,

Dont see markings, forgive my ignorance what is the bridle loops? There are none in this cap in any case that I see.
I had a local collector who handles a lot of these look at it and he feels piece is good. I traced it back to Peter Lukacz at Military Antiques.com who sold it and I understand to Peter to have a pretty good reputation. I have bought 1 Heer tunic from him in the past which was 100%.
I have found period photo of EW sewed on backwards, and understand that there was a Heer Gebirgsjager unit that purposely did this but I have not researched that on my own.
The trapezoid does have soiling, hard to tell from pic as flash was used. Turned out friend bought the cap. Some on WAF liked it and had no problem with it and some no.
I compared it to several WSS M43s I own and the cap itself appeared good. The EW backwards bugged me however but after seeing period pic, who knows...
Thanks John.

I see nothing that causes me much concern, probably a privately tailored piece
