This is a knot that I have never been able to ID.

It's on a long L&E sawtooth fire bayo.

Blue and green with a green insert w/black leather strap.

Any ideas what it designates?

Thanks for any help.

Roger,

The leather strap presents quite the conundrum as it's not something that would be regulation for a Feuerwehr bayonet knot. As you know, FW knots have leather straps with 3 lines of aluminum thread although occasionally very rarely they do have a variation with cloth. The color scheme is way odd as well.

Can you peek under the threads to see if maybe they were dyed on top? My first inclination is to think someone cobbled together a Luft faustrimen strap with something else. Very unusual to say the least.

Can you show us a shot of the L&E mark? Always a pleasure seeing that one.

Thanks for the response.

Checked the knot and the color is consistent top & bottom ( both the green & the blue ).

The knot's condition is also compatible to the condition of the frog (also L&E marked) and the bayonet... although that, of course, doesn't mean they belong together.

Even if this is not a Feuerwehr knot, I'd love to know what kind of knot it is. ( I've never even seen a fake with this kind of color combination)

Attached is a photo of the mark.

Roger,

Funny, I was going to ask if the frog was also L&E marked. Well done, a beautiful (& rare) touch. Never seen an L&E sawback before, really a pleasure to see.

As far as the knot goes, it's a first for me. Even the color combination is a mystery to me. I'd love to know what George Wheeler thinks. Until then, thanks for the show Smile

A guess would be Luftwaffe Forestry subordinate-but only a guess. The Luftwaffe also had fire brigades and sometimes carried the fire bayonet-but the green -to me indicates Forestry

Could you -please- show us the bottom "dot" of the portepee and also the marked frog (just for my personal education)?
Perhaps the bajonet id belong to any big firm factory fire brigade or "Werkschutz" (factory protection) with certain (perhaps private schema) portepee colors?
Regards,

Thank you for your observations. A possible link to a private factory unit (ie: corporate colors) seems very feasible.

Per your request, attached/following are "dot" and frog photos.

Roger,

I second that, super indeed. Besides the great rig, I really want to know the affiliation to that knot. Something else to put on the list of things to look out for Smile

foxart, thank you very much for showing these additional pics.
A very nice bayonet with very interesting accoutrement.
