Hi Guys looking for an opinion on this item, not sure if the back belongs to the piece although I have a screwback merit cross with swords with a clam back very similar. Does anyone have examples of cases for these large screwback items ?

There are reputed originals with this style clamshell, however on the originals it has been noted that there is a small nub dead center of the reverse of the clamshell. The thread posts are reported to be of a different guage than originals. This info. is attributed to Mr. Gordon Williamson, it may still be in the archives but probably was lost in the switch over.
There is an example shown on page 161 of The Iron Cross of 1939 by: Gordon Williamson. The depicted eagle is a different style.
