Is this a good ET 2nd pattern decal or am I mistaken. I am not up on all the new fake decals. Any help would be appreciated.

That's an awful lot of abrasions just centralized on and around the decal

Thanks for the comment but that alone really does not mean it is good or bad. I know this Heer decal is good and it has as many scratches.

In my opinion that SS decal is a bad one.

Kevin,
I would agree with Robert's assessment and also say that the SS runes decal is bad. For me, it is the graphics that give it away.
Cheers,
Darryl

I thought so but was going to check with others to be sure. The graphics do look a little off and I do not like the border of the decal how the black has worn away along the edges. Thanks guys, Kevin

Only one question for all you experts ! How can you tell yust from the picture, that is fake ?
I must tell you that this helmet has bean brot back from the 2.WW, by my grandfather who was himself a member of 7 SS Prinz Evgen divizion, and i dont think that they have fake SS decals during the 2.WW, do yo ? O.K that are two questions, but please tray to answer me on the first one ! I have my grandfathers picture from the time he was with the Wermacht, leater on in the same year i belive it was 1943, he yoin the Waffen SS and his first and last post was with the 7th SS Prinz Evgen as we are originaly banat germans, and the mayority in Prinz Evgen were banat germans !

Mathias, glad to hear your SS camo is good. All original decals have design characteristics that distinguish them and the shell makers have a style pertinent to their product. Decal close ups are frequently required because the fakes have gotten so good and even then a hands on inspection is sometimes required.

Matthias, A disturbing photograph to say the least! Do you have a date as to when it was taken? It would appear that someone has "clear-cut" (desecrated) a cemetery! Not a very respectful source for helmets Ed

There were a lot of german barials in the Ukrain and Russia, but the mayority was disacrated after the 2.ww or even this days by grave robbers !

Especialy SS graves atract grave robers, becourse all ( even the smollest SS sign ) original SS items are worth like gold ( moust of the times even more ) ! Sadly, grave robering can be stoppedt, as we german militaria colectors are all crazy abouth SS items and we offer the highest prizes for this kind of militaria ! But it shoud be stopped by the low and sovier punnisment, becourse we must ( the colectors ) understand that sometimes the closest family members of desecrated german solders garves steal alive and amagine the shock if hey see some personal items of their love ones to be offerd for seal in e bay or militaria shop ! My grand uncle was also lost somewhere in Russia and considerd dead and i konow that his children ( two sons and a dodther ) woud be herd if someone woud play with his dads skull and bones as it was shown in the Trezer hunt.com forum ! I blaim the forum hat they alow the fotos of the graverobbery to be attacht to the topic abouth battlefild diggings !

I agree Matthias I would love to see more photos of your helmet and of your grandfather during the war if you have any. Thanks.
Looking for anything related to KC winner Johannes "Hans" Briegel and the Fsch. Pz. Gren Rgt 2 "HG"

This photo the helmets and gravemarkers was taken at Brest Livosk fortress area, so it would have been taken in the first 2 weeks of Barbarossa. This was told me by the owner of the photograph who has some great russian front photos on webshots. So that means these were not dessecrated graves? but possibly a storage point prior to burial? See the helmets in lines(would Russian dessecrators do that?) and some of the stakes have been newly sharpend. Its a thought . Pete Russian front photos
