Starky,

Save your money. This one is completely bogus...decal, liner, wire, paint, name, everything.

Cheers,

Thanks to all that responded to this post. I find it interesting how veterans acquired bogus war items like this helmet. Being a gun collector I was after the P38, belt and holster, and the Paul Henkels SA dagger that the vet brought back. This helmet was in the box the other stuff was in along with some odds and ins and his own uniform. It makes you wonder how many packs of cigarettes were traded just to have someone put something together so they could have a look a like war trophy. Thanks, starky

As we always say...buy the helmet, not the story. If the helmet is real then the story (provenance) is nice to have. However, each must corroborate the other.

Cheers,

Darryl....How true those words are in any collectible. Unfortunately we will never know this story. The vet passed away in 2003, and the widow just recently. Thanks, starky

If the decal is fake(amongst other things) as members here state than it was not put together during the war, immediately after the war or before 1970. It was done in the not too distant past to deceive. If it was in a box of veteran war bring back items than it was added either by the vet recently or by family members nthinking that it was authentic. Great helmet for display however until you can afford $8000.00 for the real thing, if you could find it. cheers, Ryan
