Is it possible to clean water marks off a blade without damaging the blade itself ?

"Water Marks" are rust and cannot be cleaned off without leaving traces since cleaning them off involves using abrasive cleaners. Sorry for the bad news.

My 2c opinion = I think the term "water marks" is deceptive and originally coined by dealers wanting to call a blade with rust marks something that sounded a lot less worse.

Dave's right, water marks are nothing more than old rust spots that have been polished clean leaving the layer of steel missing. unless someone can find a period polishing machine from one of the factory's that went out of business their is no way to remove the rust spots (water marks). I bet if one were found their could be alot of nice looking restored blades. I'm still amazed that after 70 years so many daggers survived damage.
