Sublime collection Rob!

That SS-Sturmhauptfuehrer Ernst Zaske (SS No.1338) with his full Roehm was yet another naughty nazi. And SS-Brigadefuehrer Richard Hildebrandt was SS No. 7088 (with a tip of the topper to Bernie's The Key once again).

I recall seeing the Hildebrandt dagger in Wittmann's Catalog. I think that he had mentioned that the grip had a lot of damage and had quite a bit of repair work done. With that being said it really doesn't matter because having any artifact from such a high level SS Officer is a real find!

SS no.1338 that is certainly a low number.

Top collection you got there maybe one to rival JR's. Wink

JR, No argument!! Those are some killer blades. Eek

Years ago, not too long after I began to be a serious collector, a friend took me aside. Got out a BIG hammer and started to beat on my head repeating: "condition", "condition", "condition". I had been buying "beaters (mostly guns) to fill in holes in my collection. It took me a while for it to sink in. But he was right, and its a lesson I have not forgotten.

No rationalizations needed to justify those daggers. OUTSTANDING !! Thank You for Sharing. Smile FP

Absolutely right Fred. No point in buying something you will be less than happy with.

Rob,
Very impressive. I'm sure those daggers cost ya' a pretty penny, but they certainly are beautiful.

That dagger/degen combo is awesome!

Thanks Rob, if only I did have the best...I wish I'd just concentrated on SS and not got sidetracked with SA, naval and luft pieces too!

I know of a few gents out there with far better collections...there was a chap here in the UK who the last time I spoke to him (a good 5 years back) had an Honor (high leader or how you want to call them), three Rohms, 7 chained and at least 40 '33 patterns...

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you just have the one, it's the amount of pleasure you derive from it that counts ! Some guys just have to keep on buying and buying, others are content with one example in the best condition they can afford. Then there are other chaps like JR who have handled hundreds, keep a few choice items and then move on the rest.

It's just great to see plenty of people still out there enjoying collecting these things !

I'm one of those guys who only have one ss and one sa. Both are in NM condition and I doubt if I will buy another. I just wanted one example of each in the best condition that I could find.

I like all daggers and I don't "type" collect and this is why I only have 6 SS daggers. Big Grin
Will I get more, don't think so, unless I can get a really great bargain, though is very unlikely in today's market. Roll Eyes

Jonathan has made a very salient point. It is the pleasure that you derive from the hobby that is the important thing. It really doesn`t matter what you collect as long as you are happy with it.
