I have a stripped m42 helmet shell that I am going to repaint. What is the best way to repaint it? Is a primer required before the finish coat? Thank you.

Haven't done a helmet before, but dagger and sword scabbards never used primer. You may need to post on the helmet forum for answers.

hi, i think it depends on the `finish` you`re after. early war, textured, `normandy` camo, dak sand or italian, etc etc. generally no primer is used, but i know this has been covered as vern says on the helmet forum, so my best advice would be to head there and do a search. some of the other forums, (i`m thinking of the `axis history` helmet forum in particular) , have also had this question posed before. if you can`t find the answer here, try looking over there. all the best, steve.
