Looks to be a well used original to me. Personally, I wouldn't restore the leather with a replacement strap as it becomes an altered piece. You could use a little neutral leather restorer on it to try and prevent further breakdown, and wipe any rust spots off the blade with something like simi-chrome. Is there a date on the ricasso?

Russell

Is it a must to have the date on the ricasso?

I don't think it would have to be a 'must' for a date on the ricasso, but many Eickhorns set up like this do have a date. As it is well used, the date may have worn off. If there wasn't one to begin with, I wouldn't think it anything to be concerned about.

Regards
Russell
