I JUST PURCHASED A JULLEUCHTER AND WAS WONDERING SHOULD I TRY TO CLEAN IT OR LEAVE IT ALONE ?IT LOOKS TO BE DIRTY FROM HANDLEING IT OVER THE YEARS OR JUST FROM AGE.IS THIS NORMAL OR NOT ?WHEN I BOUGHT IT THE PICTURES MADE IT LOOK BRAND NEW AND WHEN I RECEIVED IT IT WAS TOTALY DIFFERENT TO MY SUPRISE. I just picked one up at the MAX and was told to leave it alone. If it has been used then leave the usage signs or the candle drippings or smoke alone. I think that if you tried to clean it up, you risk damaging the clay.

It is only fired dirt with no glazing, so it would not take kindly to any kind of cleaning, especially with abrasives.

Having it used only adds to its mystique. It was after all to be used as part of their semi-pagan rituals, right?

I concur Joe, never clean one of those. It would harm much more than help.

Mine too is a bit dirty with wax spilling down the side and i like the way it looks. I would never try and clean it. I like the primitive look!
