I have here a brown vertical, obviously for an SA dagger. It is stamped on the back as you will see. What do you think this hanger is for? Is it a "normal" vertical for an SA or a "special purpose" one? Thank you in advance.

Wotan, Thats a great looking SA vertical, extremely rare to find an SA vertical of any kind, that one I think is a bit special.A friend of mine collects these and has many different types of these verticals, one day I will get a picture of them and post it for all to see.

I would say it is for a special unit or purpose because it is "Official". Most SA verticals are unoffical and are not RZM approved.

Thank you all for looking and to those of you who commented. It was offered as a supposed Feldherrnhalle. I was not sure about it. I know this type of hanger from reference books but have not seen one in real. On the other side there are also Feldhernhalle hangers published which look like slightly modified NPEA hangers (frogs) so this one looks quite different. As Houston say, it has been an "official" accouterment because of the stamp. At least an oficially offered accouterment, not a privatly made by skillful hands. and I am not sure if it isnt "simply a" vertical which each storm troop member could buy if he wished, from official sources. Are there any documented facts? Baz69, I think we all, who are intrested in accouterments too are longing for this moment.

I believe it is documented somewhere that there were no official verticals for the rank and file of the SA. This could also be for the SA Wehrmannshaft or even something else-SA Streifendienst? Standard Bearer?( spelling may be a little off on these )

I just picked up one of these as well, as these brown verticles are a fav of mine. This one has the same markings L2/441/38, plus a name Kernstus...umlaut over the u.

NOT NPEA as NPEA is NOT a party organization and hence no RZM markings on the daggers. Ron Weinand Weinand Militaria

vintagetimenow, congratulations to the twin! Condition is even slightly better and the stamping is easier to read. The word under L2/441/38 says "Kernstck" and is NOT a makers name but says it is Kern-Leder (core-leather), a desirable and strong leather part. Did a look with a magnifying glass on mine, it is lacking the "Kernstck" word.

Thanks for the info Wotan, that makes sense. Now, if I only had a Feldhernhalle SA to go with it. ....
One question, does your outer snap have a thick enamel coating on it? Mine looks like it has an M&M shell coating on it...partially coming off..but the paint on the button underneath is brown too. Thanks, John

As you see in my first pic, the brown coating of the snap is undamaged, I do not know what is beneath. Although the coating of the snap on mine seems to be darker. Need a W marked SAdagger too .
