A new find today, very little worn early RAD
in the "Altsilber" toning - where the background has some darkening to make the high relief details like the spade stand out.

I like that the spade has the mottling, seems many have been worn down or never had any (?) Also I like that the back is marked "B 16 36"
and that this is the date of the leather tab.

The tab shows the maker name Bernhard Herrmann of Luedenscheid. It's also nice this stamp is as solid as the buckle. Anyoe know a fair price range for these handsome items?

Thanks for any comment!

Hello,

in my experience they are worth in a range of 100-150 $ : keep me informed if you are going to sell it.

Best

Thanks Rob -

Right - this maker isn't one I know of, either, and it doesn't appear in Angolia's "bible." Maybe Jaan Pierre can chime in?

Not the rarest buckle but a solid RAD EM with a lot going for it.

Great looking buckle. I have 2 from this maker, dated 36 and 38. Neither have the leather tab.

Thanks.

I'd still like to know how BH scores in the rarity stakes. I just looked at my Evans book from 1999 and he also doesn't mention or show anything from this maker.

But someone from the other forum says BH was "well-known." I guess that's a reletive term...!

Hello,

with term "well known" maker I mean that B. Haarmann (as all the specialized collectors know) did produce many kind of buckles, among them the RAD one.

Thanks again, Ric.

I'd only hoped there might be "rarity rankings" for buckles - based on the maker - as there are with daggers. But it seems not....

Hello,

similar to daggers there is a rarity ranking for the buckles as well : small makers did produce for sure less buckles than the big ones.
As I stated Haarmann Firma did produce many kind of buckles (Heer, LW, Postschutz, RAD, Police...ecc), by such evidence we could think it was a big manufacturer.

Best

Ric

I take it the stamping to the buckle reverse is BH instead of B 16.

Yes Joe - BH. Is this a desireable RAD maker, then?

Seems a bit hom-hum to most here - or they just don't "dig" RADs, maybe...

I never did get into collecting by maker marks so I am not sure about desirability as to makers. It is desirable to have a well marked buckle and a well stamped leather tab and the condition of your buckle looks to be very high. Congratulations on an interesting buckle. Smile
