Hello all, I was directed to this place by a friend, he believes that what I have is something to do with german police. Picking this item up has really got my collecting bug going and I want to know everything there is on the police. If it is German police can you answer the following questions??
1 is it German police? if it is, 2 what was it used for? 3 how many different names on titles did the german police use? 4 what sort of time frame did these things come into existance? 5 anyone else got any titles they can share?

Hi Thomas, welcome to the forum.
Yes indeed this is a cufftitle used by the German Police in ww2 These titles were worn by members of police units attached to Wehrmacht combat units. Often their task was to secure the newly conquered area's. I think use of the title started around 1939 something. I have pictures of this title being worn at least into 1943 but cannot recall I ever saw a date the use of these was cancelled.
I know of about 6 different titles to have existed with variations in each type (like officer/nco or typeface)
You may find some additional info on the police when you go to my website (see my signature)

Hello and Welcome to the forum!
Ill post a couple of images of the DW cuff band in wear below. Sorry about the protection on them, although there are certain individuals that wrongfully use the property of others without permission so it becomes a necessary evil.
This cuff band and numerous others have been thoroughly discussed here and is you try a search or Find from the tool bar above you might find some useful information. Ill try and located on of the good threads from the past and post a link.
The below picture reflects both officer and other ranks grade in wear.

Hello and welcome to the forum Thomas. It looks like you have a very nice cufftitle. It's a good start if you want to continue to collect Third Reich Polizei items.
I cannot begin to tell you how helpful the guys here have been over the years. They have saved me from making bad decisions a few times. Good luck to you.
Dave, great photo. I love the Po. helmets with the breadbag straps. Real combat policemen!

Gary, great cufftitles you have shown. And very rare too.
In my count of 6 different titles total I have counted your two titles as one type having two variants.

The SS-Polizei-Regiment Todt that Gary shows are a very good example of two proper police variations that illustrate modification. The unit was originally designated as the "Polizei-Regiment Todt" and the band will be found factory embroidered in this manner. The "SS" designation was added later and that is why the embroidery of the runes is different. The runes were added to the cuff titles at a later date (during wartime) and this is perfectly proper even though it looks odd.
Nice titles Gary.

Ernst thank you for the information. 6 different cuff bands hay, well that sounds great, but all I can see here are 2
The DEUTCH WEHRMACHT and that great POLIZEI REGIMENT TODT, oh and nice website too
What are the rest??? Anyone know when these things came into existance??
Gary8 I really like those titles, now that has got me going, I want to find more
Dave very nice photos
ORPO that is very interesting about the generic cuff bands being upgraded, any idea when this may have occured, time frame etc

Looks like we are talking about the following:
Deutsche Wehrmacht
Polizei-Regiment Todt / SS - Polizei-Regiment Todt
Motorisierte Gendarmerie
L.P.G. General Gring
Marine Kstenpolizei
Polizei-Fliegerstaffel (Never seen a real example of this one before?)
Dates of use/introduction vary. I should have pictures of most all in wear, except for the last, although I'll have to look for them.

Hello Thomas, very nice of you to say so, I picked these two up from a website in Germany called Helmut Weitze, they had been on the website for at least 3 years before I decided to get them.
Here is another one I have attached to a jacket, officers version of yours.
ORPO you are absolutely correct on the SS runes on that cufftitle, the runes have been hand embroidered.
Dave is it true that you have photographic evidence of the Marine Kustenpolizei cufftitle in use?? I would like to see that one.

Hello Guys
All fantastic information that has been given so far. It is incredible that those 2 titles where on that site for so long, considering as Ernst put it very rare titles.
That title on the jacket look great, can I have a look at the rest of the coat??
Dave I can hardly wait to see all those titles in use, I feel very excited.

Hello to all,
A very nice thread and great cuff titles posted for viewing.
I beleive the actual function of the DW cuff title was to "Legalize" the wearer as a combatant and to afford him any and all privelages of full Wehrmacht membership. This included supplies drawn from Wehrmacht sources.
Cheers

Gentlemen,
Don't forget the language proficiency cuff titles that were worn by the police. Also, the cuff titles and armbands worn by some Hilfspolizei. As John mentions, I beleive the state service armbands also afforded some legal protection to the wearer when he was under arms. I have seen these armbands in wear by some policemen who were performing POW control operations in France.
Here is one of each worn by a Hilfspolizei.

It would be interesting to find out when the Regiment Todt was seconded to the SS?? I do not believe that the Todt was taken over by the SS as photographic evidence exists that would suggest that this cufftitle was some sort of function much like the Deutsche Wehrmacht title. Is this true? can someone throw some light on this?

Gary,
The Polizei Regiment-Todt was the original name of the unit in honor of Dr. Fritz Todt. The unit was later awarded the honor title SS-Regt Todt for combat performance. They did not come under the command and control of the SS, they just received the honor title of SS-. I don't know the dates though.

Goerge thanks for that, so this was just an honour title, do you know what regiment it went to?

Gary,
"Todt" was officially designated as SS-Polizei Regiment 28. The 28th was in Russia in January of 1943 and went to Holland and the Netherlands and then to France later in '43. It served in France and then the Balkans until the end of the war and was commanded by Knights Cross winner, Oberst der Schutzpolizei Bernhard Griese. A good police combat unit by all accounts.

Thomas looks like a nice title, as to 450 euro, it sounds fairly reasonable, although the last one I saw for sale was $90 but that was a very long time ago.
Here is an original LPG General Goring cufftitle that you might like to see.

Dave that is a fantastic marine cufftitle, shame on you for missing it, shame on me for not finding it.
Dave can you please send me any clear photographic evidence of the Motoriserte cufftitle in use from you vast collection of photos. I would also like some clear photos of those titles as well if at all possible.
On 24th July 1941 Navy uniforms where ordered to be worn by the Marine Kustenpolizei (M.K.P), which included all naval equipment. Any old M36 style police uniforms where ordered to be returned to the police depots and discontinued. An M.K.P. manual of 5th October 1941 no longer mentioned the titles use, however this may well have been omitted by mistake. It would appear that this title was not too popular as it was rarely worn

Here is a photo what is apparently the very rare Flierstaffel cufftitle in wear.
Has anyone ever seen one of these, I remmber posting a friends collection once on the forum that had a fliegerstaffel title in his collection, in the middle of a glass cabinette, but I just cannot find the darn thing now.

Gary,
I have never seen a period photo of the Fliegerstaffel cuff title in wear before. A neat photo.

Gary8,
Re the LPG Gring photo you posted on 1 October, any chance of a close-up of the buckle the man's wearing? Looks very interesting and I thought it could be "1st type" Prussian police buckle.
Many thanks for your help.
Best regards, Karl

Hello Karl I am sorry to say that the buckle is not vissible on close inspection, but with the shape of round leaf decoration Iwould say that ths is a Prussian buckle.

I have been watching this topic with great interest and I see that there is a number of titles with silver bullion but not many that are embroidered.
Were are all the machine done ones? Was there a machine woven Motorisierte Gendarmerie? Has anyone got a machine embroidered motor title they can share? or any other machine embroidered titles? Was it normal for all these titles to be hand done in silver wire?
