I know some of you have seen this before, but thanks to a friend and forum member I was able to pick up this fantastic helmet.
I really like the Tropical helmets and in my opinion they do not get much better then this, Untouched Early droop tail snake leg. 64/57 Early aluminum liner band LBA marked strap Name Tag
I will have to admit I am pretty happy to be able to add this helmet to my collection.

Are the decals "liberated" or painted around?

They appear to be painted around, IMO. The soldier (or whoever was tasked to do this) was very meticulous and took some time and care. Very nice helmet, Matt. The outstanding examples go silently from one great collection to another.
Cheers,
Darryl

Another Beauty! I remember when Cody bought that one. It's got it all; AK paint, DD, Snake Leg, LBA strap and named in the liner. Can't get much better than that.

The helmet surfaced on eBay in March 01 from a West Virginia estate seller who reports the helmet was found in a closet buried beneath a pile of old clothes. Of course! Cody

Matt,
Congrats with this beautifull lookin'helmet. This one have it all (esp. named, preserved decals and the nice DAK-camo)
You don't see them around often and I'm sure it is one of the last helmets which is leaving your collection ever.
regards,
Thijs

Hi Andy,
The closing bid was almost twice that. While the helmet was expensive for the time it was worth every penny then and what it would sell for now. Falling into seller's remorse would be quite easy, however, transferring ownership to Matt helped facilitate the acquisition of another 'rather unusual helmet'.
