Old stuff... old stuff... Hmmm...
I thought about stuff that I have had for 20 years or more. Then I thought about stuff that I have had for 40 years or more. Then I thought that this can be a really interesting retrospective thread.
Here is a Schupo visor cap that I have had for over 20 years. I love the custom crush on this 1940 dated cap.

I have always had a weakness for the bayonets. This is an old photo--I have a lot more now.

Regardless, that PP looks like an excellent example, complete, and with some interesting history! Certainly a keeper and it looks awesome with the police material!

Mike,
A very nice selection of police goodies. You are well on your way.
Here is another piece that I have had for over 20 years. I bought this Walther PP straight out of a milk can where a local fellow kept his pistols. It is a very late war police marked PP complete with holster, tags, and capture papers. This pistol has the late war rough finish and grips and is made without the loaded indicator as is proper for this 1944-45 serial number range. The green leather holster is also proper and was made by the Italians to fit these German police pistols.

Dave,
The two tags that are wired to the trigger guard are property tags. One is a straightforward property tag and it seems that this GI was in a hospital at some point as the other tag is from an ETO Army hospital. I suppose they took it away from him while he was in the hospital and stored it as his personal property for a time. I have seen one other property tag of this nature and it was a re-cycled WWI toe tag that was used as a property tag in WWII. You know the military, waste not want not.

Dread, Sorry about your firearms ownership issues in OZ. We are just a cantankerous lot here in the states and we have to get very vocal when our politicos try to limit firearms ownership by individual citizens. One thing is that the two pistols shown above are both Walther Polizei Pistolen (PP). The short police pistol (PPK) is a bit smaller overall and has a shorter barrel. Here is a police issue PPK that I have had for about 45 years. Notice the police proof mark on the frame by the trigger guard.

Dear George,
Nice guns. I used to carry one just like it.......before I knew they were worth something.....as a back-up gun. Long gone unfortunately, after the department forbid auto loaders, only to issue Berettas some years later.
I am still trying to find my snap shots of the collection back in 69 to post. The good ol' days!
Regards, Bill Unland

Bill,
We think alike my friend. I carried this particular pistol as a backup gun for many years on the street. I started out carrying a Colt Trooper as a holster gun until we switched to the Sig-Sauer P225 and P226. I still carry this PPK (or my P226) from time to time with my retired commission. I still have to qualify at the PD range though. Not a problem since I was a rangemaster for some 20 years. I tend to schedule my range time with the other retired cops instead of shooting with the current crop of young turks though.
I would love to see your 1969 collection.
George
