Is it a General Officer tunic as the eagle looks to be.

It does look like a KM Coastal Arty Officer Eagle. My monitor seems to make the background of the eagle a dark green. Is it green or black?

Can you please post a photo of the entire tunic?

I thought that it was a Generals but didn't expect it to be Rommels!!
What museum holds that tunic? It would definitely be on my list of must see places.

Of course I posted that eagle just to mess with your brain. This uniform is on display at the Deutsches Panzer Museum in Munster

What were some of items you saw there? I bet that it was one heck of a museum!

I have a long post on the Panzers under the military model forum. You can also google this web site. The uniform displays cover everything for Knights in armour through today. The Army uniforms go on and on. Its a mind blower museum, Blue Maxs, Knight Crosses, Standards, Lugers by the ton, a field Marshall baton. German military history in all of its glory.
Easy to get to from Berlin. It is located very close to the current Panzer training facility. In the background you could hear the training rounds from the Panzerschule going off. Great!

I am not a tunic authority and I am not questioning a German museum but for general knowledge I would like to ask the following:

- Was Rommel not made a field marshall (the shoulder boards) after Africa?
- That might then make the tunic a summer white unit of a later vintage?
- Did not the "textbook" summer white army tunic have a metal breast eagle? Would a general's be in gilt metal?
- Are the collar tabs the right rank for the shoulderboards? I was under the impression that a higher ranking general tabs had another "bump" in the bullion?

The tunic is a completely authentic tropical tunic, definitely not a white summer tunic. As for Rommels promotion to Field Marshall, the date was 22 June 1942. Field Marshall Kesselring took the crossed baton devices from his own shoulderboards and presented them to Rommel, in North Arica. Rommel did not leave North Africa until March 1943.
I hope that this clears up any questions about this tunic.
