Hello,
Is this a real army helmet with a really bad attempt to paint SS logos on it? or is the whole item bad?
Thanks for the help. Matt

just based on those pics, the inside looks like original paint, and the liner also looks original, but at least one rivet looks loose, so the liner may have been out at some time. the outside looks repainted and the `decals` added later, probably by a kid i`d say. so to sum up, original helmet, shame about the paint job. all the best, steve.

I concur with the above comments. If this helmet is already yours, you may want to consider the possibility of stripping the exterior gently in hopes of uncovering the original finish.

I gently stripped off the black paint. This is what was underneath. Unfortunately the vet sanded smooth the areas where he painted his decals. There was also an oval stamp in the crown that showed up where I cleaned dust/grime out of the interior. What exactly do i have?--I'm a sword collector and out of my area.

didn't see a date on the stamp just several german words and the roman numeral VI. Sorry about the pic--was the best I took.

by the looks of it you have a very desirable camo helmet!, well done. the oval stamp is the inspectors stamp of approval at the factory. a lucky find indeed. just goes to show what`s hidden under some of these repaints!.
