Gentlemen, Pattarozzi's amazing new reference book on the Luftwaffe Gravity knife, describe the FKm Type IIa as the rarest of all paratrooper take-down gravity knife. During the conduct of the knife survey only two (2) Type IIas were observed out of 2000 knifes of all variations. These were only produced for a very short period of time in 1941 by Paul Weyersberg. The unique feature being the all carbon steel blade construction. The example being showned down below, was probably unissued as it is in a perfect condition.

Ed, all of the non take-down blades were made from stainless. Most of the take-down gravity knifes were also made from stainless and had the word "rosfrei" written below the maker marked ( pic attached ). Rosfrei meaning that they were made from stainless steel. The blades on the take-down model that had nothing written on them, were carbon steel. The only exception being the carbon blades made by Weyersberg, which had the maker marked written but without the word "ROSTFREI".
I highly recommend the book for anyone interested in the Luftwaffe gravity knife. Great reference book !

Raymond, Thanks for showing your rare Weyersberg. Carbon steel was very fragile and most of them were damaged with time. I have no clue as to why mine was kept in such a pristine condition but I won't complaint.

Thanks Pat,funny thing about 6 yrs ago I was selling it for $300.The guy got spooked because it was M/M and blade wasn't S.S. A friend told him that was the way a take-down should be.I told him thank you very much I'll keep it.

Aren't you glad he refused your offer ? For those that are interested and do not have the book, here's a small description of the 9 types listed by Pattarozzi in his book.
