With some luck, I found SS Mann No. 121 903 to be SS-Rottenf�hrer Kurt B�tel. Fortunately, this document also included his birthdate, the primary number used for tracking records of German military personnel. Ross Kelbaugh www.ssdaggers.comww.HistoricGraphics.com

Unfortunately, neither his personnel service records or a Race & Settlement file exist for him in the National Archives. However, he did join the NSDAP and his membership file card was recorded though his photo was no longer attached. Congrats to the current owner! I believe that those numbered daggers with a provenance of being published as unidentified in major works and later identified will command an additional premium. And one more thing of interest, I identified a SS dagger for a collector this week where I actually found a photo of the SS Mann wearing it! This is only the second time I have had this happen out of almost 150 NCO/enlisted SS daggers I have identified. And this one was the best photo yet! Some guys have all the luck.... Enjoy! When I developed my SS Officer's Research Service over 25 years ago, I had hoped that some day we would be able to research ALL SS numbers at some point in the future.
Now Ross has managed to add more available numbers past the Dienstaltersliste that I used in the beginning. All to the better for the hobby and collector.

Ross,
I went to your link showing "successes" in matching names to ss numbers and see a brown grip dagger with gau stamp on the crossguard. It had the number 25510 stamped into the wood. Is this considered an ss man's number who was also a SA member and had his number on his SA dagger? The reason I ask is that I have as SA dagger with the number 22623 stamped on the crossguard and on the scabbard fitting. It did not occur to me that it might be a ss number.

Hi RHans: It is a Roman numeral III on the lower cross guard and not a Gau marking. This is a SS dagger numbered on the wooden handle which is uncommon. I just didn't show the rest of it. The number on your SA dagger would not be a SS number. Some say these are the SA Mann's individual membership number. Ralf Siegert's new book documents an example where is it a "number that was assigned to it at the moment of its distribution." And thanks for stopping by and having a look.
