That could be a good one, but looks like someone was digging on it looking for a decal.

Yea Matt. I like that one a lot, and it's because someone has been digging on it for the decal that I underline in my suspicion of authenticity. quote: Originally posted by Matt Miller: Slim

Yea, that's steep. But a lovely looking helmet though. If it's not worth that now ($3K) it will be in a couple years. Saw a 1969 Camero go for $200,000 at the Jackson Barrett auction (Speed Chanel). To this the announcers said, "Probably a very smart buy." quote: Originally posted by Wormhout: 3000 bucks....wow

I hated to get bent 3K for it. I will say I have not seen a DD Army AK forsale for a long time. This is a pretty rare helmet
I will shoot some better photos when I get it.

Hello Well I was ready to place my bid on that one. But at the last seconds (as usual) it went to CRAZY prices again. And of cours Matt you were there also . I had a realistic price in mind but it went from 980 Pounds to 1700+ pound in a few sec's. I hate that e-bay stress. Good luck with the helmet. If you don't want him let me know Cheers Nick H

Matt: My helmet collecting is very modest, and lacks a good cammo. Should the day come when I hit the lottery, I'm gonna make you an offer you will not refuse! Just today alone you have shown (3)cammo's that would make any collector proud. Please show us your top ten!

I bid as well after watching it from the very start but just couldn't afford the $3000 that it finally went for. The seller didn't believe me when I told him that it would definitely go over $2k. Nice helmet but unfortunatley not in my collection.

Very true your comments, Nick. But that's the way it goes sometimes with these hot items on auctions out there made even hotter by "free" advertising them on these forums. I, personally, have mixed feelings about discussing auction items listed on eBay and similar. On one hand, it gives the chance to many members to access and see something that they want and otherwise might have missed. On the other, it creates the "gold rush effect". In the end the member probably ends up paying more than what he really wanted to pay, and the auctioneer (to his delight,I may add) ends up getting a lot more than what he expected. JMO

Hello Max Yes indeed thats excactly my point. Good believing people see a helmet that they think is good and post them on the forum to ask opinions. Let's say 20 or 30 interested people see that so they get the ebay sniper ready to bid extreem high prices or just wait there for the last second and add a price that not many will overbid. As you saw when Slim listed the auction here no real good opnions where giving so that was already a bad sign. The problem now whit this helmet is that he's for good out of reach for many many collectors with thats price... Even I wanted that helmet so badly but not 1 hair on my head was thinking of adding a bid of 2500 euro's for a camo like that, no matter how rare he might be. We often talk about dealers that have there prices way to high for some helmets, but hell we do it ourselfs... We make the high prices... We always pay high prices... I know many people will think that I'm jealous now but it's not, I just wanted to express my collectors frustration that I guess many people have but don't dare to talk about. I hope Matt will be happy with it and I'm sure will be waiting to see some good pictures about that helmet. Best regards Nick H

Its been my experiance that in the last year anytime I ran into a real nice camo by someone that knew what they had, it was $2000-$3200(army or Luft). This range is from dealer and private collections. I know of some camo's in collections that would do even better. I personally will do what it takes if I like the helmet enough. I think everyone has his limits, which in the end is effected by how well they like the helmet. A double DAK camo is a highly sought after camo. I think because it was listed in the UK it scared some away actually.

I just received one of the 2nd chance offers as well but knew straight away that it was bogus. The return email address was completely different from the seller. Ebay scam artists doing their handywork. Perhaps I should send him a virus, if only I knew how.
Max, I know what you mean about seeing items come up on the forums creating more interest. I have to admit that when I saw SLIM post this helmet my heart sank, but these things happen and we quickly find something else to add to the collection. I have even seen an item which was discussed, received very few bids despite receiving the thumbs up and went for a great price (to me). I only saw the thread months after the auction because I was overseas at the time and was lucky. It does work both ways.

That will teach you to post a helmet on a Public forum...Normally they get found anyways but its like asking hey did you see the $100 in the grass over there?...wonder if it belongs to anyone.

There's an old saying fella's, "Who dares wins" ! Collecting TR Helmets has reached a new faze & now collectors have to consider the investment value over one of nostalgia & the value placed on it by an enthusiast. I've collected lids off & on for over 30 yrs as an enthusiast but TR lids have always been the most collected & therefor the most expensive. If you want a rare helmet then your going to pay through the nose for it ( such is the level of competition ) & even if you've payed to much for it, it'll eventually be worth it or more. Matt now own's a lid that a lot of people wanted, including myself & from that alone, it's probably a bargin at 3k.
Mike
