Hey Guys

This sword came in the huge pile of swords I picked up back in December. I picked up some books. Showed it around and the conscious BULGARIAN DIPLOMATS SWORD? Let me know what you all think. Its in tip top shape, and of course has the quality of the Eickhorn Factory.

What you have there is a Bulgarian WWII era Generals Degan. I own one that is identical to yours except my piece carries the monogram of King Simeon and not King Boris III as yours does. King Simeon was the son of King Boris III who mysteriously died shortly after a meeting with Hitler. His son, (Simeon) took the throne towards the end of the war and was then exiled. If you do a forum search for "Bulgarian Degan", a thread will come up that has a picture of mine in it. I only know of one other example like mine and it supposedly resides in a military museum in Sofia, Bulgaria. Your beautiful sword is also very rare and is an exquisite example of the high quality craftsmanship that the Eickhorn firm could produce. Congratulations on an outstanding find!!

Hey Gary

Thanks a million for the info on this sword. THe one I looked up on the forum is very nice as well. Can't believe I was able to find something like this. Do you know where I can find photos of the sword in the Bulgarian Museum. Thanks.

Spencer,

It's the "National Museum of Military History" (Bulgaria). Do a search on the internet and you will find it. Once you get to their site, you can go to "edge weapons" collection and there use to be a picture of the sword and a brief description. I quickly tried the site before writing this message however, the "edge weapons" section was unavailable so I could not see if the sword is still there. Maybe the site was just having some difficulty and it will come back up. Give it a try.

Good Luck with your research,
Gary
