Hi,
I cant get a clear meaning about that dagger.
Scrabbard seems 100% good. Grip is celluloid with wood inlay, also good. Hangers appear to be good, too.
So the whole one should be OK, it came from a private house, where I wouldnt expect some fake parts. But who knows.
The etched MM on the blade??? I dont know.
Any meanings, please!

IMO you dagger appears to be fine since luneschloss was one of the makers authorized to build Navy daggers. Jim

Jim,
they were authoriced, correct. But they did only a few of them, and there are copies of them out there. Most with blued blades.
So I would be happy if one has an original one to compare.

Nice looking PDL, is the etched logo though? I always thought the etched PDL logo was suspect? The dagger looks correct to me though.

Etched trademarks are totally legit for period LNESCHLOSS daggers when all other features conform to period pieces which is in the case with this dagger. It IS a period one. Wittmann also shows this etched trademark in his book on pg 305. One thing which is obviously differing is on the blade spring and another one is the square spring button. Imo the "thing" on the spring seems to be a period repair of a broken spring and the spring button seems to be a private replaced one, perhaps as the original one was lost when the spring was repaired? But once again, the dagger is a period one. Just my thoughts. Regards,
