Very poor fake-and not for a degen IMO. For low ranking NCO's not authorized a degen

Thank you Houston for the quick response I thought until now that collectorsmilitaria was a respected website. I am disapointed. Sybille

Houston is absolutely correct. These and the "officer" type are seen fairly frequently on some dealers' sites, represented as authentic. You also see them on auctions, sometimes represented as reproductions, sometimes not. Although it is possible you could find one on an SS sword, it is unlikely it was placed there during the period. They are most often "legitimately" found on bayonets. I own an RZM SS NCO bayonet that came from the vet with an authentic knot of this variety.

Thank you Grumpy, very interesting . Would it be possible to post a photo of your knot. I am seeking for an authentic one and have difficulty to find a good one. Sybille

Additionally there are period wearing photographs which show this certain (but original ) kind of portepee worn on bajonets and sabers. Also the much more known "leaders" portepee was worn on bajonets and the degens (contemporary wearing pics). Regards,

I'll try to post a photo in the next day or two. The immediate "flag" is the material covering the stem, where the runes are located. On the reproductions, the pattern is way too prominent and "rough." on originals. it is smoother, with a more subtle pattern.

Go to germanmilitaria.com (Collectors Guild) and scroll down to the SS and Polizei section. There is an example there.
