Hello,

A little horror for the FJ helmet collector......

After liborating the Netherlands the german helmets were collected, german soldiers had to deliver their helmets, the helmets went to the fabric where they were ,enameled, reissued as stainer or chamber pot. There was one shop who selled those reissued helmets, the Hema. stil exists.
info on this site:

commonly they made the M35 or M42 helmets into stainers but several times you see a Fallschirmjagerhelmet. My 1944 Fj-helmet-stainer:

wow!!! wonder if there are double decals or a single decal under there...when you think of the hundreds of thousands of helmets surplused at the end of the war it only makes sense.....cheers, Ryan

I know it seems horrible to see that, but if every helmet still existed that was ever made, we'd all be using them for chamber pots, because they'd be coming out of our ears. Just makes the ones left more attractive to me. I've seen photos of german helmets sitting outside the doors of hovels in Europe with flowers hanging out of them.

My dad told me that during the occupation, he saw a tank drive over many, many helmets, crushing them as well as rifles.

All helmets attempt to protect the user's head by absorbing mechanical energy and protecting against penetration. Their structure and protective capacity are altered in high-energy impacts. Beside their energy-absorption capability, their volume and weight are also important issues, since higher volume and weight increase the injury risk for the user's head and neck.
