Hello forum. Open for comment(s) is the following: Waffen SS M42 NS/SE Decal ckl 66 Lot 3318 (some say 3310, but under a 30X loop I see what appears to be a indentation making me think it is an 8 not a 0). I recently aquired this helmet which has been in the hands of Darryl Pajot with a thumbs up coming from him. I am waiting to "speak" with Darryl, however business has him traveling for the next week from my understanding. I know some history on this helmet and would like to continue to fill it in for the future. So any contributions would be great. I took the two decal pictures obviously from different angles from about 12" away with a subdued flash. I am now experimenting with camera to get the best pictures of the entire helmet both exterior and interior which I will post when I am happy with the results, but for now.... Here ya go. Regards, Craig

Robert,
Thanks for your comment on the Helmet.
The Das Reich is still with me. A couple of inquiries, however nothing serious.

Craig, I am by no means an expert and have also read the thread(s) on WAF. I have carefully compared this to reference photos and short of holding it in my hand would say it appears to be a good one. If it passed the Darryl Test, it's a definite keeper. Cheers, -Mike

My guess is removed by the original poster. Unfortunately the conversation went off the rails big time at a couple of other forums on this helmet.

SSTK is correct. Unfortunately I was hammered personally in other forums asking for FACTs or THEORIES that may help me substanciate originality as well as creating a pedigree for this helmet. Here is picture specifically for this forum. I have now learned to use different names for each forum for pictures to be upload as to delete when needed, should it be need here if attacks on me personally happen.

I think the worst that can be said about this helmet is the decal/maker anomoly. And there is plenty of disagreement about that. ( see Mr Pajot) Having also been on the receiving end of fire on a helmet, vetted by 98%, publicly doubted by one, it is never pleasent. However, the one kernal of the decal/maker mismatch did not take hold with you, despite repeated interations. It got personal after you made it it personal. So, as many have said....trust yourself, ask those who, thank goodness, will provide an opinion. After that, why, just live with it. Good luck in the future! Paul

Paul,
Thanks for you contribution.
Darryl Pajot did physically inspect this helmet.
Regards, Craig
I will not bring my WAF issues to this forum.

I, too, am awaiting Darryl's return. I once had acquired with his help a well-used salty, reasonably priced SD WSS. The same individual who disliked yours put the hex on mine as well. Also the tone on that forum is a bit, shall we say "harsher". The only reason I venture over is because this one is currently almost dormant. In any case one must be happy with one's own judgements since few things in this life will ever have a 100% guarantee. Be happy with this helmet-if Darryl has held it in hand and said it's OK, that as close to certainty as you will get. Cheers, Mike

Hi guys,
I am back from France and have "spoken" to Craig via email. As I told him, the helmet is a-ok in my books...a nice piece and in great overall condition too. Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. I am overwhelmed!
By the way, to get a feel for the low knowledge level of some of these guys over at WAF (and other forums) have a read of the thread regarding the Allgemeine-SS Officer's cap...it's truly mind-boggling. My advice is to find someone you know and trust and stick with his opinion. You will always find those who are misguided and ill-informed offering their "opinions" which are in most cases, wrong. Learn who they are and disregard them.
Cheers,
Darryl

Darryl, I am glad this is a good one. I think some people take the general norm of type of decal to helmet maker a bit too far sometimes and some good helmets are given the old thumbs down. I have sent you a PM. Glad to have you back. -Mike
