A few years ago I posted images of this silver WMW sword here on GDC. It received several positive comments and one person, who is a well known sword collector, commented that he has a period photograph, or access to one, showing this model in actual wear by the SS. For the life of me, I cannot remember this person's name.. I'm sure I would recognize his name or user name if I heard it.. I've done a search here, to no avail.

Can anybody help me find this person?

All the best ..

Mike W.

Chris-

Try:
1- "FrogPrince"- aka Fred P. (moderator here)
2- "Orpo"
3- "Mr. Fabulous"
4- "Damast"
5- "JR" (his flavor is SS/Police degens)

These guys above are pretty active in the sword community. Often it's the same collectors posting since the sub-genre of saber collecting is not as popular as other edged weapons categories.

Wouldn't the SS have green eyes though. Very nice sword.

Thanks Tom ..

I think it is "Dale Ellis" I'm looking for. I guess he got fired from moderation back in 2008. And that looks like his final post here..

Torinojo2,

Thanks! It is a nice sword ..

I have seen Alcoso 113s with red eyes and teddy bear eyes.

I don't think the eye color matters ..

Dale is still here, I think. Try to search for posts by him and follow the trail to his contact information. You may be able to search for him by name only. Yes, the color of the "eyes" can be red on SS sabers. TW's SS book shows several examples of such.

Thanks!

I just swapped emails with Dale and he remembers the lost thread, but wasn't the one with the photograph. He did purchase this exact same model WMW silver saber directly from a WW2 Veteran and it had an SS knot on it.

I'd sure like to find that photo.

I've looked at the images, and on my monitor it looks like a white metal (zinc ?) hilt peeking out from underneath where the plating seems to be worn away. Any chance for some better pictures? FP

Yes, the hilt appears to be of a white metal such as zinc. I can send higher resolution images to your email address if you wish ..

Mike,
Thanks for the offer of some additional images, and that piece of information does place the saber into the later manufactured blades (versus early). But if your in-hand look confirms what I seemed to be seeing in the images, it won't be necessary.
Regards, FP
