Here is another from my collection. I'm open for your opinions. The splitpins look like a kind of brass. Never seen that before. ]

Hi Marc you dont seem to have had too many replies to this helmet . I should imagine DAK M42's are quite scarce (This was picked up in Tunisia) the wear patterns look a little odd ,I would be interested to hear what the other guys think of this helmet .Rob.

The early rivets used in the M35s and into the earliest M40s were nickel plated brass. The nickel would wear off leaving just the brass exposed. The very first rivets used in the M35s were pure brass and sheared off very easy. This was a manufacturing problem and most helmets were (recalled) upgraded with the nickel plated rivets. Larry

Thanks for you replies, Seems not so many people can or will reply on this helmet. if you dont like it it is fine with me, I can take the pain. Rob: I added some more pics of the paint, and the wear pattern. Where the camo paint is missing it looks like there is too much air in the paint. , maybe people can add some more information based on these pics Marc

Hello Marc,
The camocolours are yellow/tan/ green brown if I see correctly ? Rob mentioned it comes from Tunisia ? There is a story going with this helmet ?
My concerning is the camopaint added at some spots where the helmet is damaged/scratched.(looking at your last added pic at the right side/below)) But that is just my opinion and I can be wrong.
Besides my remark the helmet has a attractive camocolour. Inspection by hand can solve many questions.
regards,
regards,
Thijs

Tricky one to call ,I am not happy about the sandpaper marks on the rivett. The camo in the damaged areas just means it was damaged before it was camoed,I think its a case of closer examination with a loupe .Rob.

I'll defer to the experts here but my thoughts are that this helmet displays none of the usual wear to a mid level conditioned camo. It has camo paint damage where it traditionally is not found and is missing where it usually occurs.
Wear patterns are repeated in different areas of the helmet. Left side photo is obvious. Appears that two different instruments were used in the aging/chipping. Lastly brass rivits on a non decaled M42 would be a first that I have seen.
Just my opinion. As I said I will defer to the experts.
