There is currently an auction for a Mundlos SG 84/98 III with a post WW2 LAH etch on eBay. The etch requires no further discussion, but my eye was drawn to the makers mark on the ricasso: S244,36

Except for the early pieces with date letters, the date normally is on the back of the spine of the blade. Here the 36 is stamped directly behind the S244 code, in the same style/position as the earlier date letters. The serial no. is 1640a.

My question is: Is this typical for Mundlos, 1936 production? I have not seen this with other manufacturers or production years.

Andy, can you read, or do you know, the WaA?

I would be inclined to read it as 212, but I am not sure.

In Claus Espeholts list ( http://claus.espeholt.dk/mediearkiv/waae.pdf ), the WaAs 212 and 215 are not listed. He mentions 219 for a 1936 Mundlos "cln.kit" (dont know what that is).

regards,

Kilian
