Handsome cap - congratulations. But why the "RZM" stamp? I thought this was for the "blacks" only...

Perhaps he was wounded in Belguim or France in 1940 where the TK division fought in Fall Gelb. The cuff title is a Totenkopfverbande title. What regiment was he assigned to in the SSTk Division? Much of the TK division was wiped out holding Demjansk in the winter of 41-42. This would be an early war or prewar picture from what I can tell, it is small. I find that divisions history quite fascinating and would love to hear more, as not many TK soldiers survived the war. They surrendered to the Americans who turned them over to the Russians. Many were summarily executed or died imprisoned in Russia.

Did you got original the insignias together with the visor or what is the story? I remember this visor was crusing arround in an email offer that I become lately once the month. Mostly helmet stuff and last time this visor and the picture was included on the sale offer. I don't know the person who is sending me the emails, and why I would spend around 1900 Euro to one person I don't know at all. The picture is also not new for me, it was also in the email and then you can see it here again: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213216I am sure somebody could tell us the whole story.

If the hat is from the same TK man, it seems a shame to have split up the group.

I don't like this visor at all, the sweat band and everything with this thick stiching looks like a big time put together visor cap.

Thanks for the comments - I own the SS visor - came directly from Hans J Grundt a Radiotech. was a SS member of the 3Th. Totenkorpf division, in the beginning of the war he spend most of the time in Wienna, where this picture was taken later he was in Warsawa, Polen and ended the war on Western Front, where he was wounded and later captured. I have no entention of trying to convice anyone. This is not a matter of true or falsh..
He handed it over to me personally and I spend a few hours in his company which i dont think many can say that they have had the possibility to do!!

Hi Kalmanpark, are you able to ascertain the regiment he was assigned and did he finish the war with the TK division? I have read several unit histories of the division and again, find thier particular divisional history somewhat fascinating. In the beginning of the war (Poland) the TK division was organized still as Totenkopfverbande in 3 regiments based out of 3concentration camps. They were used as Einsatzgruppen behind the advancing armies. Then arranged into WSS Division 3 Totenkopf they participated in the invasion of France. Leter they fought in Army Group North under 4th Panzer Korps and then later the Demyansk pocket. They spent the rest of the war on the eastern front fighting in and around Kharkov, Kursk, Mius River, the retreat to the Carpathian mountains in 44, Poland and the Vistula, and finally Lake Balaton in Hungary. So I am just curious and not debating, the soldier clearly has the insignia of early war Totenkopfverbande but he must have served in a different SS division at some point to have been wounded after May/June 1940 and captured on the western front. Would be interesting to hear the story! Cheers.

The piece has to stand on it's own, regardless of who sold it, where it came from and from these photos, I'd have doubts, especially concerning the interior and RZM stamp.

Hi Ben
I became owner of this - from the owner!!, an 85 year old man comming straigt up to me handed it over and said this was my Visor - i used it through the war and that is why it is so worn and I also got wounded at the end, and he showed me his personal SS photo album. And how his girlfriends, when he was off duty in wienna, where allowed to wear his visor just for a short while for fun (also say pics of that) well THEN YOU JUST MIGHT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE TO UNDERSTAND THIS AND THE ORIGINALITY OF THE SS VISOR.

No offence meant, if you're happy with it, that's all that really counts. Until the time when you wish to sell that is.

Is this guy tryin gto pull a scam or what is the story here. He says he was selling it for 1200 euros but has decided to keep it, now it is 1000 euros. If this were a true SS hat would it not be more expensive????? Especially with provinence. Harry

Who knows, maybe he wants to sell and is just showing it off for publicity? Strange story about the TK soldier, hardly any survived and none were in Normandy.
